Teen Tech Week Video Contest

Be the star in a video you create by participating in the Libraries are for making...Teen Video Contest. Make a short, original movie trailer about your favorite book. This short two minute video must be about a book and it must be your own creation. The video can use multimedia such as images, video, animation, music, and words to compel the viewer to read the book. Prizes will be awarded at a special reception for all contestants on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

Deadline for submission: Saturday, March 7 at 5:00 p.m.

Blind Date with a Book
Where: Waterford Library
When: Monday, February 2 - Saturday, February 28

Don't judge a book by its cover. Choose from a selection of books whose covers have been hidden. If it's not love at first read, return it and try another.

 

Year of the Sheep - Fuzzy Sheep Craft
Where: Waterford Library
When: Tuesday, February 24
        3:30 p.m.

Celebrate Chinese New Year and the Year of the Sheep with this adorable sheep craft. Start your own flock and learn more about sheep and the Chinese zodiac.

 

M & M Candy Count
Where: Keyes Library
When: Monday, March 2 - Tuesday, March 31
            Open hours

All ages can come by the library to guess the number of green M & Ms in the jar. The closest estimate will win the entire jar of candy.

 

Guess How Many Candies in the Jar
Where: Empire Library
When: Tuesday, March 3 - Tuesday, March 31
          Open hours

Guess how many red and white candies are in the jar. The prize for the winner is the jar of candy. Books will be on display and available for checkout.

 

"Insurgent" Movie Release Party
Where: Oakdale Library
When: Monday, March 9
          3:30 p.m.

Celebrate with us the March 20th movie release of "Insurgent" by taking a test to see in which of the 5 factions you fit in.  Then, create a button or/and paint your nails to don as you go to the movie theatre to show your affiliation to your faction:  Faction before blood.

 

Book in a Jar Contest
Where: Keyes Library
When: Monday, March 9 - Thursday, March 12
          Open hours

Teens can come by the library and use their reading skills to guess what book has been shredded and placed in a jar. The appropriate guess will win headphones, a character USB drive, and an itunes card. In the event of a tie, a drawing will be held to determine the winner.

 

The Library Rocks

Choose between one of 5 library themed youtube videos. All videos will be posted on the Friends of the Keyes Library Community Facebook page. Individuals can watch the videos and vote for their favorite either online in the comment section on Facebook or vote in person at the library. All those who vote in the library will receive a cookie.

 

Libraries are for Making ... Buttons and Boxes

Celebrate Teen Tech Week by making your own button with our button maker and making a light up box using a simple circuit.

 

Tin Can Robots
Where: Hughson Library
When: Tuesday, March 10
          3:00 p.m.

Make a Robot out of tin cans. Books will be on display and available for checkout.

 

Stained Glass Window Kites
Where: Turlock Library
When: Tuesday, March 10
          4:00 p.m.

Vibrant colors of tissue paper glued on a frame. Sunlight will have a prism effect as it floats through this lovely kite sailing on your window. Books will be on display and available for checkout.

 

What Are They Saying?
Where: Hughson Library

          3:00 p.m.

Guess what the real lyrics are and who sang them and win a prize. Books will be on display and available for checkout.

 

Streaming Music Workshop
Where: Hughson Library
When: Wednesday, March 11
          3:00 p.m.

Learn the ins and outs of streaming music apps. Discover secrets on how to find music, create play lists, and which app is right for you. You do not need to familiar with streaming music, or have apps previously downloaded. Pizza will be served. Books will be on display and available for checkout.

 

Happiness Week
Where: Modesto Library
When: Saturday, March 14 - Thursday, March 19

Celebrate Happiness Week at the Modesto Library from March 14 through March 19. Enjoy free compliments, inspirations, and quotes from the library to brighten your day. And contribute to our Happiness Wall by writing down what makes you happy.

 

Craft Redo Day
Where: Keyes Library
When: Wednesday, March 18
          1:00 p.m.

Children, tweens, and teens can stop by the library to redo some of our favorite crafts. Books will be on display and available for checkout.

 

As Seen on Pinterest
Where: Turlock Library
When: Wednesday, March 18
          7:00 p.m.

Join us the third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the Turlock Library as we make popular arts & crafts as seen on Pinterest. This month's craft will be creating a wreath out of clothespins and wire. It can be decorated for any time of the year...the possibilities are endless. This class is recommended for ages 14 and older. Registration is required. Space is limited.  Please call 664-8100 to register. Pinterest is an online tool for collecting and organizing things you love.  You do not need to be familiar with Pinterest to attend.

Jelly Bean Basket Craft
Where: Waterford Library

This little basket is made with recycled materials and filled with fun. Books will be on display and available for checkout.

 

Socktopus Craft
Where: Waterford Library
When: Tuesday, April 14
        3:30 p.m.

Sock + Octopus = Socktopus Use a single sock to make this cute sea creature. Books will be on display and available for checkout.

 

Butterfly Release
Where: Empire Library
When: Thursday, April 16
           4:30 p.m.

Join us as we release the butterflies that we have been watching change from caterpillars to cocoon to butterfly.

 

Free Knitting and Crocheting Classes
