Pirate Week

Ahoy mateys. If ye find the Pirate Hat and guess the loot in the jar ye may just get a prize. Keep yer eyes peeled for other pirate-y things to do and see.

Safety Story Time

Join us for a special Safety Story Time. There will be a practice evacuation with our special guests following the Story Time. Children learn about safety in a safe relaxed environment. Staff will practice evacuating a Story Time to learn the most effective way to exit in a real emergency.

Lego Play

Ages: 4 - 18

Children ages 4-18 will have the opportunity to build LEGO displays for the library. LEGO play helps children develop fine motor skills. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct adult supervision.

Symphony Petting Zoo

Come play . . .with music. Join the Modesto Symphony’s Manager of Education, Amy Sullivan for an exciting, interactive music experience. Kids will have the opportunity to handle and play a variety of instruments, learn about rhythm and get busy with the fun of making music.

Lego Play

Children ages 4-18 will have the opportunity to build LEGO displays for the library. LEGO play helps children develop fine motor skills. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct adult supervision.

All Kids Craft Fair

Kids ages 7 - 14 can apply to sell craft items at our annual All Kids Craft Fair. Young crafters will showcase their talents and learn about sales, customer service and business, while having fun. Free Applications will be available starting September 2 and must be turned in by September 30, 2014. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call us at 558-7810.  We are looking forward to seeing you and your crafts.

Slightly Scary Stories

Bring your favorite story to tell or just listen to others tell. Submit a copy of your favorite scary story to the Children’s Department by 3:30 p.m. October 14. If approved, you can read it or the Librarian can.

Dinner Theater: Cowgirl Tricks

Hold your horses. Here comes Cowgirl Karen Quest. A unique fun-filled Vaudeville-style Western Comedy Act complete with Trick Roping, Whip Cracking, Music and lots of Surprises. Dinner theater is a special family program recommended for children ages 6 and up. You provide your dinner and we provide the theater. Dinner theater programs enhance imaginations and teach live audience skills. Space is limited; advance sign-ups required - call 558-7810 or come to the Children's Desk. Sponsored by Stanislaus County Library Foundation through a grant from Omega Nu.

Rock Painting

Children and their parents are invited to paint rocks at the Riverbank Library. Paint and rocks will be provided. If you have a special rock you want to paint, bring it and paint it. We will be using acrylic paint, which is fairly permanent so please bring a smock or wear clothing that can get paint on it. Rock painting books will be on display and available for checkout.

Guess the Candy in the Jar

Through the month of October, the Riverbank Library will display a big jar of candy.  Customers young and old are invited to guess the amount of candy in the jar. The winner will be the closest guess without going over. The prize for the winner will be the whole jar of candy, including the jar.

Mayor's Book Club

Name the Robot

Meet our friendly – but nameless – robot and enter your suggestion for a name. Winning name will be drawn at random and the winner will receive a prize. Children will continue to enjoy the library's emphasis on science programs while helping to name a featured character of the Children's Library. Adults are encouraged to bring a camera to take a photo of children posing with our robot.

Pirate Week

Aaarh, Mateys. There be pirates aboard. Look for buried treasure and decorate your own treasure chest. Practice talking like a pirate. Children will learn about a colorful era in history while engaging in sensory play. This also provides an opportunity for creativity while decorating a treasure chest to take home. Pirate books will be on display and available to check out.

Book-N-Craft with Tangrams
Tuesday, September 30
4:00 p.m.

Challenge your mind and your creativity by listening to the story Three Pigs, One Wolf and Seven Magic Shapes – and then make your own shapes with tangrams. The tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle that can be arranged to form amazing shapes. You get to take home your own set of tangrams. Books on shapes and math will be on display and available for checkout. This program is designed for school-aged children but can also be enjoyed by preschoolers.

Children can use creativity to build with LEGO blocks while learning early math and engineering concepts. DUPLO blocks will be available for children under the age of 4. Children under 4 must have direct adult supervision.

Family Dinner and Movie Night

Children and their families can enjoy a family-friendly movie and picnic dinner at the Library. This month's movie is the the superhero movie, Batman Mask of the Phantasm. This program is a part of the Salida Library's Tuesdays Are Family Days series. Children can come in their pajamas. Bring a picnic dinner and a blanket to sit on. The library will provide a beverage and popcorn. Books will be displayed and available for checkout.
